Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-05-27. Effective immediately for all visitors and subscribers.
Who we are
Labelgrade ("we," "us," "our") is an editorial website operated at labelgrade.com. We publish nutrition information for branded foods. Contact: see the contact page.
What we collect
Automatically
- Cookieless analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not collect personal data. We see aggregate counts of page views, referrer domains, country (not city or precise location), and approximate browser/OS shares. We do not see individual visitors or sessions.
- Server logs (Cloudflare). Standard web request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — is logged by our CDN (Cloudflare) for security purposes such as DDoS mitigation. Cloudflare retains this data per their privacy policy; we do not directly access or analyze it.
When you provide it
- Email address if you subscribe to our newsletter. Stored by our newsletter provider (Beehiiv) per their privacy policy. We use it only to send you the newsletter and (rarely) administrative notices.
- Email content if you contact us. We use it to respond and may retain the message indefinitely for our records. We do not add contact emails to the newsletter list.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party advertising/tracking pixels.
- We do not use cookies for tracking. The few cookies we may set are essential (e.g., to remember a "consent given" state) and have no tracking function.
- We do not fingerprint visitors.
- We do not collect location data more precise than country (via Cloudflare's standard IP-based geolocation).
- We do not require accounts or sign-ups to read content.
Cookies
Labelgrade does not set tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a small number of essential cookies
(e.g., __cf_bm) for bot management and security. These are not used for tracking or
analytics. We do not display a cookie banner because our cookie use falls under the
"strictly necessary" exemption in GDPR ePrivacy guidance.
Some affiliate links may set a cookie on the destination retailer's domain (e.g., Amazon) when clicked. We don't control those cookies; they're governed by the retailer's privacy policy.
Third parties
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, analytics
- Beehiiv — newsletter delivery (only if you subscribe)
- USDA FoodData Central — data source we cite; not a service that handles your data
- Affiliate retailers — Amazon Associates and other affiliate networks, only invoked when you click an affiliate link
Children
Labelgrade is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their email address, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, CPRA)
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you (typically: your email address, if subscribed).
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data. For the newsletter, click "unsubscribe" in any email or contact us.
- Object to processing or request a copy of your data.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we've handled your data improperly.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact page. We'll respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the rights listed above plus the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the sources we use, and the third parties we share with. The short answer: we collect only your email (if subscribed), via your own action; we don't share it with any third party except Beehiiv (our newsletter provider, processing on our behalf). We do not "sell" personal information as that term is defined under CCPA.
International transfers
We are based in the United States. If you are outside the US, your data (email address, if subscribed) will be transferred to and processed in the US by Beehiiv. By subscribing, you consent to this transfer.
Security
We rely on Cloudflare's infrastructure and Beehiiv's compliance with industry-standard security practices. We do not store passwords, payment data, or any other sensitive information on our own systems.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be summarized at the top of this page with a new "Last updated" date. Subscribers will be notified by email if a change materially affects how we handle their data.
